Teaching at ORLS is done in the light of God's Word. The Christian faith is not only taught as a formal subject, but as a complete body of God-inspired truths that permeate every subject and area of communication.
The curriculum meets or exceeds the requirements of the State of Missouri, complies with the guidelines of the Lutheran Elementary School Association (LESA) and meets the standards of the Board of National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA).
ORLS’ curriculum consists of:
- Scripture and Doctrine Instruction,
- Language Arts (reading, phonics, phonemic awareness, spelling, language and handwriting,)
- Social Studies
- Natural Sciences (The theory of evolution is contained in the textbook but refuted using Bible study),
- Fine Arts (music, drawing, crafts and art appreciation),
- Physical Education
Achievement tests are given annually to all students in grades 1-8.
Because of our small class sizes, ORLS offers differentiated instructions for our students. This allows for student’s strengths or areas of challenge to be addressed in several subjects. Through mutual discussion with the parents, teacher, student and principal will make the final placement.
